Dr. Steve Wheeler is a practicing Neurologist and the past Director of the Ryan Wheeler Headache Treatment Center (Miami, FL), a past Chairman of the Psychiatry and Neurology section of the Southern Medical Association, and Founder and past Chair of the National Medical Association Annual Headache Symposium. He has held full-time faculty appointments at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Case Western Reserve and has been a Voluntary Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
A graduate of Dartmouth Medical School and a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and American Headache Society, he has been honored as a Black Achiever, Best Physicians in the U.S, Top Doctors, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Health Care, and received the Felix Linetsky, MD Award For Excellence In Education in 2017. A past member of the Headache editorial board, he has been an ad hoc reviewer for the journals Cephalalgia, Headache and the Journal of the National Medical Association. He has published more than 70 articles, abstracts, monographs, chapters and reviews in the areas of stroke, neuromuscular disease, and epilepsy, but predominately in headache.
On September 11th of 2011 Dr Wheeler was introduced to Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine’s Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP) course, subsequently root cause, nutrition and plant based Functional Medicine was fully incorporated into his practice and he has never looked back even though he is a recovering Allopath.
